What special thing do you do that helps make you a better principal?
I build relationships with people. I get to know them and I am a good listener. I also infuse humor into almost any situation. You have to have fun while getting things done!
If you had one message for parents, what would it be?
Be your child’s biggest cheerleader! I have a special needs daughter with autism and I am her biggest advocate. Advocate for what your “gut feeling” tells you is in the best interest of your child’s success at school.
What are you proudest of in your career?
While I was principal of Campo Bello, I was proud of the way that the staff, students, parents, and community volunteers worked together to increase student achievement. We were a Title I school that was designated a “Beat the Odds” gold school. We earned an “A” rating two years in a row from the Arizona Department of Education. We were runner up for Arizona’s Title I Distinguished School of the year. I was a semi finalist for the Rodel Exemplary Principal award. When people share a common vision and goals and keep those goals constantly in focus to do what is best for kids, the sky is the limit!
